Sacred Images of Tibet 2018 Wall Calendar: Thangka Meditation Paintings Details
About the Author Greg Smith studied thangka painting with master artist Noedup Rongae at Naropa University in the mid-1970s. His paintings are highly influenced by the Karma Gardri tradition — a style favored by the great siddha, Chogyam Trungpa, who also gave Smith important instruction. He aspires to make thangkas that, while being completely traditional, speak to western people in their own aesthetic language. Read more

Greg is an amazing thangka artist and this calendar is more than impressive. I'm a little biased as I know the guy but anyone who has a deep history with the Shambhala lineage or a personal connection to the Great Stupa of Dharmakaya should make sure to hang this calendar on the wall. I am blown away by several of the paintings and had the opportunity to thank Greg personally for creating these works. He told me that the project was a lot of fun, and now each morning is a little more fun when I look at the calendar and remember the joy he brought into this work. Even if you have no idea about Tibetan buddhism, the paintings will still be impressive. When the year is over I'm sure to frame a few and hang them in my shrine room.
